  1. Gin is an alcoholic drink made by distilling 
  2. a mash of maize, malt, or rye, with juniper 
  3. flavouring. It was first produced in the 
  4. Netherlands. In Britain, the low price of 
  5. corn led to a mania for gin during the 18th 
  6. century, resulting in the Gin Acts of 1736 
  7. and 1751 which reduced gin consumption to a 
  8. quarter of its previous level.
